L’Arche Cape Breton
L’Arche Cape Breton is part of an international federation of communities where men and women with developmental disabilities, and those who choose to share life with them, live and work together. I have been involved with this project for almost 10 years now.
I provide assistance with updates as required and this project included a module for managing News & Events, a Photo Galley system and a dedicated Mailing List.
L’Arche was founded as a Catholic organization by Canadian Jean Vanier in 1964 in Trosly, France. Since then it has grown to include over 100 communities in 29 countries, and has evolved into an ecumenical organization welcoming of all religious traditions, and those with no tradition at all. Each community is unique, yet we all share a common vision of the basic dignity of each human person.
L’Arche Cape Breton was founded in 1983 when Tom and Anne Gunn invited Janet Moore to come and live with their family. Today, we are a community of approximately 50 people. We have six houses, an apartment, a chapel, a hermitage, a house of welcome and retreat, a small garden, and a full work program called L’Arche Works (including a used clothing store, a workshop, a day program, and an integrated work placement program with the local businesses).

Client Testimonial
“L’Arche Cape Breton has the good fortune to have Aaron Allen as our webmaster for almost 10 years. Aaron has the ability to understand what an organization is all about, and the creative ability to illustrate that understanding on our website. He is always willing to work with us to keep our website up to date, and he has had many innovative ideas to achieve this.
L’Arche Cape Breton gets many compliments on our website from potential assistants, donors and those interested in the welfare of people with developmental disabilities. We believe that Aaron deserves much of the credit for this. We have always been more than pleased with his work.”
